Overview

Most people fly between Vietnam and Cambodia. However, this Mekong Trails 7-day tour takes a completely different approach. Instead, you cross the border by speedboat along the great Mekong River itself. It is a genuinely unique and memorable way to travel between two countries.

Starting in the Mekong Delta, you drift through colourful floating markets, cycle through fruit orchards, and connect with local families along the riverbank. Moreover, the border town of Chau Doc reveals a fascinating mix of Vietnamese, Khmer, Cham, and Chinese cultures all living side by side.

From there, the speedboat carries you into Cambodia. In Phnom Penh, you explore the Royal Palace and face the haunting history of Toul Sleng. Furthermore, Siem Reap delivers the breathtaking grandeur of Angkor Wat as a truly fitting finale.

DAY 1: HO CHI MINH - VINH LONG - CAN THO

The program will start with the visit of Cai Be colorful floating market cruising among local barges full of fruits and vegetables. Then, an optional stop can be made at local workshops where you can see how to make rice paper, coconut candy and pop-rice, pop-corn…The rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals and enjoy a peaceful time. It is so interesting to see traditional houses made of wood and palm tree leaves and see some activities of the local farmers with an opportunity to make contacts with them and see how they catch fish…Lunch will be served at Ut Trinh home. After lunch, we walk around the orchards and then we will enjoy some fruit tasting while listening to traditional music. One more thing to do on this trip is biking! It will be so amazing to bike on village paths to see the local farms, houses, real-life and the ancestral ways to pick up fruits in Mekong Delta. Say goodbye to Vinh Long then move to Can Tho. Overnight in Can Tho.

DAY 2: CAN THO - CHAU DOC

After breakfast, we will proceed to visit the Cai Rang floating village early in the morning. Then drive to Chau Doc. Located on the upper Mekong Delta, the town is 280 km south-west of Saigon on to the Cambodian border. With such proximity, the local population is an eclectic mix of Cham, Khmer, Chinese and Vietnamese sharing different cultures and historical richness. Overnight in Chau Doc.

DAY 3: CHAU DOC - PHNOM PENH

Breakfast in the hotel. Check out early and 6.30 and you will get pick up by the pier for express boat to Phnom Penh. Visa on arrival can be made at the border. Arrive Phnom Penh at noontime. A car picks up pier in Phnom Penh. Check-in hotel. Welcome dinner and overnight in Phnom Penh.

DAY 4: PHNOM PENH

Start a day visit the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda and National Museum. Lunch in a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit Toul Sleng and Killing Fields and enjoy the sunset at Wat Phnom, the symbol of the city. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

DAY 5: PHNOM PENH - SIEM REAP

Free until transfer to the airport for morning flight to Siemreap. Pick up and transfer to the hotel. Today you visit the sites of Angkor Thom, including Victory Gate, the Bayon, Baphuon, Phimean Akas, the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Dinner with Apsara Show in a local restaurant. Overnight in Siem Reap.

DAY 6: SIEM REAP - ANGKOR WAT

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Banteay Srei and well-maintained Banteay Samre, Banteay Kdei. This afternoon, we visit the magnificent Angkor Wat to explore its architecture. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Enjoy the morning cruising on the famous Tonle Sap Lake before transfer to the airport for departure flight.
