Nobody knows the true origins of this sweet soup. Many people believe that a person whose nickname was “Third” is the first person made the dish. This is the reason why the name of the dish means “sweet soup of Ms. Third”. However, it is also thought that the name is possibly only symbolic. In Vietnam, local customers usually call these women selling sweet soup by their orders they were born in their families, for example: “Ms. Six”, “Ms. Seven”, “Ms Eight” etc. According to one local legend the dessert has been sold at Bình Tây Market for around half of the century, and it was originally made from a total of from 9 to 10 different ingredients such as coconut milk, green bean, sweet potato, batata and many other ingredients including jujube and seeds of lotus.
