If you are looking for a glamorous destination in Vietnam that makes your vacation enjoyable, Nha Trang Beach is worth a try. This is one of the most delightful in Vietnam attracting a large number of domestic as well as international travelers from all over the world. Let’s hop on a journey with VTO through the top 5 best beaches in Nha Trang!

Why you should visit Nha Trang beaches?

  • Safety: Nha Trang Beaches are generally safe for swimming, with calm and warm waters year-round, around 26-30°C. However, strong currents can occur from September to December.
  • Extremely beautiful water and sand: Nha Trang is known as a beautiful sea city with long sandy beaches, calm and warm crystal-clear waters, and a 6-kilometer arc of white sand. It’s ideal for bathing, swimming, sailing, and fishing.
  • Magnificent landscape: Nha Trang has a stunning coastal view with picturesque deep bays, beautiful islands, and a long coastline of white sand. The beaches are surrounded by green hills and shaded with palms and casuarina trees.
  • Comfortable climate: Nha Trang enjoys sunny weather year-round, unaffected by monsoons like the rest of southern Vietnam. The calm winds create a peaceful bay atmosphere, though they might not be strong enough for windsurfing. The best beach weather is usually before 1 pm.
  • Bio-diversity to be discovered: Nha Trang Beach is known for its rich and diverse ocean ecosystem with abundant marine life, including colorful coral reefs and fish. It’s a perfect place for scuba diving.
  • Tasteful cuisine: The culinary offerings in Nha Trang include valuable specialties like “yen sao” (bird nest) and “nhím biển” (sea-urchin). “Yen sao” is the nest built by the saliva of salanganes, which was considered an age-prolonging medicine for Kings in the past.

What can you expect in Nha Trang beaches?

  • Warm, tropical waters: The ocean temperatures in Nha Trang average 26-30°C (79-86°F) year-round, making for very comfortable swimming.
  • Lively beach atmosphere: Nha Trang’s main beaches are bustling with activity – beach vendors, water sports, beachgoers enjoying the sun and sand.
  • Designated swimming areas: The beaches have clearly marked swimming zones with lifeguard supervision for safety.

  • Beautiful coastal scenery: The beaches are framed by the stunning Nha Trang Bay and surrounding mountains, creating a picturesque tropical setting.

Top 5 best beaches in Nha Trang

Nha Trang beach

Nha Trang Beach is a popular spot right in the heart of Nha Trang city, making it easy to reach for those staying nearby. It’s 6 kilometers long and runs alongside the city center, with some parts right next to the road and others separated by big park areas (Tran Phu Beach).

You’ll find plenty to do and eat at this beach, whether you want to rent a sun chair, enjoy a cold beer, or try exciting activities like flyboarding, parasailing, windsurfing, and canoeing.

The waves at this beach can be quite strong, so it’s important to be cautious, especially if you have young kids with you. Due to the strong waves, snorkeling might not be the best choice here, as the sand gets stirred up, making the water less clear. However, it’s still a great place to cool off and have some water fun!

Hon Chong beach

Just outside the Nha Trang city center, there’s a beautiful spot called Hon Chong Beach. It’s a peaceful beach, away from the more crowded areas near the city. You can find some cozy coffee shops and seafood restaurants nearby.

One of the cool things about this beach is the stacked rocks on one side, which create a small peninsula jutting into the sea. Climbing onto these rocks may require paying a small fee to a guard. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the city skyscrapers against the backdrop of the sandy beach.

The beach also offers glimpses of Hon Do (Red Island), with its Buddhist temple, and Hon Rua (Tortoise Island). The distance from Nha Trang City Centre to Hon Chong Beach is 5km.

Doc Let Beach

There’s another beautiful beach, about 40 km from Nha Trang called Doc Let. Although it’s not very close to the city center, you’ll need some form of transportation to get there. If you’re on a budget, you can take the public bus to Doc Let via Ninh Hoa, or just take a taxi for about $40. For the best rates, I recommend booking a Grab taxi.

A trip to Doc Let Beach is definitely worth it. This beach offers a peaceful and safe environment for swimming, with minimal waves and shallow waters, making it perfect for families with young children. There are plenty of activities to enjoy on the beach, such as windsurfing, parachuting, or water skiing. It’s also a great spot for snorkeling, with abundant reef life in the quiet lagoon.

Bai Dai beach

Bai Dai Beach, 30km from Nha Trang city center, is a great spot for a day trip and is known as one of the finest beaches in Nha Trang. It boasts calm waves, beautiful white sand, and a stunning palm tree-lined shore that creates a peaceful and laid-back atmosphere. Thanks to its popularity among backpackers, the beach has a relaxed, hippy-like vibe.

You can enjoy swimming, volleyball, soccer, or simply lounging on the beach. There are also plenty of places to eat and drink nearby, so you won’t go hungry. If you’re interested in staying overnight, there are many hotels in the area. I highly recommend considering an overnight stay to fully experience the beach’s beauty. If you’re a budget traveler, keep reading for affordable beachside accommodation options.

Hon Mun island

Traveling to Nha Trang, you shouldn’t miss a snorkeling tour at Hon Mun Marine Protected Area. The marine reserve covers an area of 12,00 hectares and prohibits fishing, protecting the underwater life from construction. It’s a great spot for both diving and snorkeling, as the water is not too deep, making it suitable for people of all skill levels.

You will visit three different snorkeling sites, each offering a unique experience. The first site has excellent visibility, the second site has choppy waters with a strong current, and the last site has shallow waters, providing a great opportunity to observe sea creatures up close. Hon Mun Marine Protected Area is located 7km from Nha Trang City Centre via boat.

When is the best time to visit Nha Trang?

The best time to visit Nha Trang depends on your preferences, but generally, the peak season from February to August offers ideal weather with low rainfall and comfortable temperatures, perfect for beach activities and water sports. However, this period also brings more crowds and higher prices.

The off-season from September to January sees a higher chance of rain, especially from October to December, but offers fewer tourists and lower prices. Despite the increased rainfall, it remains warm with many sunny days between showers.

For an optimal balance of good weather and moderate crowds, consider planning your trip in April-May or August-September. These shoulder months often provide pleasant conditions without the peak season’s intense tourism.

What is better, Nha Trang or Da Nang?

The choice between Nha Trang and Da Nang comes down to personal preferences – whether you prioritize vibrant resort activities or a more serene, family-friendly atmosphere.

Nha Trang

  • More developed beach resort town: Nha Trang has a larger and more established beach resort infrastructure, with a wider variety of hotels, restaurants, and activities.
  • Warmer water temperatures: The waters off Nha Trang are generally a bit warmer than Da Nang, averaging 26-30°C (79-86°F).
  • Busier, more lively atmosphere: Nha Trang’s main beach areas tend to be more crowded and have a more vibrant, party-like vibe.
  • Potential water quality issues: Nha Trang’s waters can be more prone to pollution and debris, especially after heavy rains.
  • More pronounced seasonal changes: Nha Trang experiences stronger monsoon patterns, with rougher seas during certain times of the year.

Da Nang

  • Newer, more modern development: Da Nang has seen rapid recent growth, with a newer and more polished beach resort infrastructure.
  • Cooler, cleaner waters: The waters off Da Nang tend to be a bit cooler and less prone to pollution issues.
  • More laid-back, family-friendly vibe: Da Nang’s beaches generally have a more relaxed, less crowded atmosphere.
  • Closer proximity to attractions: Da Nang is situated closer to sites like the Marble Mountains and Hoi An Ancient Town.
  • Weather can be more unpredictable: Da Nang’s coastal location means it can experience more variable weather conditions.

For a perfect holiday, it is strongly recommended to discover the whole of Vietnam as well as other Mekong countries so that you will not have to travel back and forth to experience the interesting ‘same same but different’ cultures among those destinations.
