Ha Giang 5 days


Day 1: Hanoi – Ha Giang (320 km) (L)
Meet up with our local tourguide and driver, depart to Ha Giang (expect about 8 hour drive with stops). Arrive Tuyen Quang around noon and have lunch in local restaurant. In the afternoon, continue to Ha Giang – the furthest province up to the North of Vietnam – where you can see the beauty of scenery and local markets. If time permits on arrival, walk around the area in town. Overnight in Ha Giang.

Day 2: Ha Giang – Meo Vac (B,L,D)
6 hours drive from Ha Giang to Meo Vac – the small town near the Chinese border. A rewarding landscapes on the way of this northernmost mountain of Vietnam where the local H’Mong located – who migrated from Southern China to Vietnam about 300 years ago. Lunch in local restaurant. You can choose to stop at the village or market along the way depends if you are on the market day (specific day of the week depends on the village).  Dinner & overnight in Meo Vac.

Day 3: Meo Vac – Dong Van (B,L)
Visit Meo Vac Market (Sunday is the main day for Meo Vac Market). Then we continue to Dong Van. The trip passes through Ma Pi Leng, which is also known as ‘Heaven’s Gate Pass’ as it gives the feeling of touching the sky. The drive skirts the Chinese border through a deep valley. As you wind along the narrow roads you’ll be surrounded by spectacular valleys and towering perpendicular walls of rock. Stop for taking photos as much as you want and enjoy the views. Arrive in Dong Van at lunchtime and check-in to your hotel. Afternoon, light walk around the area and leisure time for the rest of the day. Overnight in Dong Van.

Day 4: Dong Van – Lung Cu – Pho Bang – Quan Ba -Tam Son (B, L)
After breakfast, we leave Dong Van for a spectacular drive to Lung Cu, the northernmost point of Vietnam. Visit a village of Lo Lo hill tribe and discover their culture and customs (local market is on Fridays). From Lung Cu continue to the Palace of the last H’Mong King located in Sa Phin Village. Visit the palace and the surrounding villages (local market is on every fourth and fifth day of the lunar calendar). From here drive onwards to Pho Bang Town where old style Chinese influenced houses can be seen. These traditional houses are made from clay houses and feature distinctive ‘yin and yang’ tile roofs. Spend an hour walking along the narrow streets of this charming town (there is a weekly market here every forth or fifth day depending on the lunar calendar). Have lunch in Pho Bang before continuing to Tam Son over a spectacular pass. In the afternoon visit some local villages surrounding the town. Overnight in Tam Son (Yen Minh).

Day 5: Tam Son – Ha Giang – Hanoi (B,L)
Back to Hanoi, a journey of approximately 9 hours. The first stretch of this drive is particularly scenic as you leave Tam Son and complete the loop back to Ha Giang Town. You’ll again the drive through the spectacular mountains is spectacular and pass over the Tam Son Valley with views over ‘Twin Hills’. If you want to, we can stop here for a short trek to a small hamlet of the H’Mong people. Continue to Ha Giang Town and onwards to Hanoi, stop in Bac Quang for lunch. Arrive in Hanoi late, about 6-7pm.
